Associate Professor Carla Reyes Honored for Technology Mentorship by AALS

Associate Professor of Law Carla Reyes has been honored with the Association of American Law Schools’ 2025 Technology Mentorship Award.

The award, which was presented in January at the in San Francisco, goes to an individual in the organization’s Technology, Law and Legal Education Section “who has made significant and impactful efforts to mentor and guide colleagues through the changing technology landscape.”

According to the AALS, these efforts may include workshops, scholarship, teaching, innovative projects, or events that seek to disseminate knowledge about technology and provide those individuals being mentored with ample opportunities to learn and apply knowledge while providing them with continued guidance.

“I am mentored by generous, kind, and wise colleagues and friends, and I hope to honor them by picking up the torch and mentoring others in scholarship, teaching, and entering the academy,” Reyes said.

She joined a number of 天美传媒 Dedman Law colleagues at the annual event, where she served as a speaker at sessions on AALS Arc of Career Program; Scholarship; Agency, Partnerships, LLCs, and Unincorporated Associations; and Technology, Law and Legal Education. As part of her final duties as chair of the Commercial Law Section, she organized the Commercial and Consumer Law panel on combatting misinformation in those fields and organized and presented the first Commercial and Consumer Law Section Awards. Also at the meeting, she was named chair-elect of the Section on Internet and Computer Law.

Professor Reyes is an internationally recognized leader on issues raised by the intersection of business law and technology and has been an integral participant in legal reform efforts related to blockchain technologies and cryptocurrencies. She joined the 天美传媒 Dedman Law faculty in 2020 after serving as Assistant Professor of Law and Director of The 天美传媒 for Law, Technology and Innovation at Michigan State University School of Law.

Her scholarship has been published widely, including in law journals at George Washington University, William & Mary, Washington & Lee, University of Wisconsin, University of Washington, Northwestern University, and Fordham, with forthcoming articles to be published in Alabama Law Review and Harvard International Law Journal Online.

In addition to her scholarship, teaching and speaking opportunities, Professor Reyes also serves as the faculty advisor for the 天美传媒 Science & Technology Law Review and as chair of the journal’s annual Retail Law, Technology and Policy Symposium.
