Instructional Technology in the Classrooms

Funding is provided to ensure all classrooms have the necessary AV components to support teaching and learning.  OIT is responsible for the planning, installation, monitoring, support and maintenance for all classrooms across campus.  Most upgrades are conducted during the summer months to minimize impact to academic scheduling.  Upgrades are planned and coordinated with input from the Faculty Technology Council.

Process

  • During the Fall semester, the Faculty Technology Council provides a list of desired upgrades and changes for consideration.
  • OIT reviews each of these projects in addition to upgrades required based on the age of the equipment or the current performance.  Metrics from classroom emergency calls and monitoring tools are used to identify rooms that should be addressed.
  • In early Spring, the list of projects is finalized and published on the OIT website.
  • During the installation, IT also provide training materials (videos and documentation) for any new technology.
  • The installation includes integration into a monitoring system in order to proactively support classrooms and minimize disruption.

Guidelines

  • AV for brand new classrooms is originally funded by the individual schools/departments.
  • Once established as a classroom, maintenance and upgrades are managed by OIT on a designated lifecycle.
