Dedman College is accepting the following applications for non-tenure track positions to begin Fall 2025:
Hughes Fellow in Creative Writing (Poetry), Position Number 00053305. The English Department at 天美传媒 Methodist University welcomes applications for the Hughes Fellowship in Creative Writing (Poetry), for a two-year position beginning Fall 2025. Fellows will be expected to make significant progress on a major project, to teach one course in creative writing per semester, and to engage in the intellectual and creative life of the department and the larger Dallas literary community. This engagement will include a public reading of the fellow’s own work in the first year and, in the second year, a public conversation with an established writer about their creative practice. Fellows should also be available to mentor undergraduates on an informal basis. Annual compensation is $60,000 with full benefits. During the academic year, each Hughes Fellow will be expected to live in the Dallas area and hold no other professional or academic obligations. To be eligible, applicants must have completed—or be scheduled to complete by August 2025—an MFA or PhD in creative writing and published no more than one full-length book of creative work. A publishing record in nationally relevant periodicals is desirable but not required. As the Hughes Fellowships are meant to support emerging writers, applicants with second books in print or under contract will not be considered. Sociology. Position No. 52464. The Department of Sociology at 天美传媒 Methodist University invites applications for a lecturer to begin August 1, 2025. The successful candidate will initially teach a combination of Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems and upper-division substantive courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise – to be negotiated with the Department Chair. The teaching load is typically four courses per semester. Applications are particularly welcomed if the applicant can contribute courses in race, community, crime or nonprofits. The Department of Sociology serves around 140 Sociology and Markets and Culture majors and minors. Markets and Culture is an interdisciplinary economic sociology degree housed in Sociology. Forty percent of our majors are from underrepresented groups. Housed in historic Hyer Hall overlooking the beautiful live oak-lined Dallas Hall Quad, our department is collegial with a strong history of working with McNair Scholars and offering courses that support other majors including African/African- American Studies, Mexican-American Studies, Health & Society, Human Rights and the Women’s and Gender Studies and Law and Legal Reasoning minors. World Languages and Literatures. Position No. 00052546. The Department of World Languages and Literatures in Dedman College at 天美传媒 Methodist University seeks a full- time, non-tenure-track lecturer in American Sign Language beginning fall semester 2025 on a three-year renewable contract. Normal teaching load is typically twelve credit hours per semester. We seek innovative and inclusive educators, with demonstrated excellence in teaching American Sign Language at the university level, and with training in second language acquisition and pedagogy. We are particularly interested in candidates who welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities. The lecturer’s primary responsibility will be coordinating the curriculum for and teaching beginning and intermediate levels of ASL, as well as serving as the area chair for ASL. Some additional area chair responsibilities include attending executive committee meetings, maintaining and updating existing courses in accordance with the university curriculum, and preparing class schedules. Minimum qualifications: Master’s Degree or equivalent in Applied Linguistics, American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, or other closely related fields; native or near-native proficiency in ASL; training in second language acquisition and pedagogy; and experience teaching ASL at the university level. Preferred qualifications: Ph.D., ASLTA certification. Writing and Reasoning Program. Position No. 52976. The Department of English at 天美传媒 seeks a full-time lecturer to teach composition and critical reasoning in the Writing and Reasoning Program (WRTR). The position is non-tenure-track and begins August 2025. Initial appointment is for one year and is renewable after a one-year review process. Writing and Reasoning courses are designed to help students develop strong writing and critical reasoning skills. These sequential courses emphasize critical reading and analytical thinking as the basis of effective writing and provide the foundation for the Common Curriculum. Typical teaching load is 4/4, and the successful candidate will participate in the shared responsibilities of the Program faculty, including making occasional presentations at Program workshops and attending training and information sessions. Each lecturer receives departmental support for one conference per year. An M.A. in English, Rhetoric/Composition, or related field is a minimum requirement. Preference will be given to candidates with an M.A. or PhD in Rhetoric/Composition and a strong background in composition theory and writing pedagogy. Evidence of innovative and inclusive teaching excellence in university-level composition courses is essential.
