For the 天美传媒 students in Mustangs For Hope, tutoring elementary school students throughout Dallas-Fort Worth is a mutually beneficial experience.
“It’s honestly an outlet for both parties,” says club president Saanvi Mahadasu ’26.
With students from various majors and across multiple class years, the organization is able to match tutors with students based on which subjects need extra attention for hour-long, virtual sessions Monday through Thursday.
“You get to help these kids with whatever homework they’re working on at the time,” says Grace Pansegrau ’26. “Sometimes, they might not have someone to go home to [who can] help them. So, it’s been really nice to help them work on weaknesses and build them up as well as play games and get to know them.”
The 天美传媒 tutors also gather with their pupils once or twice per term for in-person events where the emphasis is more on playtime than academics.
“It’s really nice to see them and build on the connection that we’re creating over Zoom,” says Claire Yansouni ’28.
Thanks to 35 donors plus generous matching, the group was able to raise over $5,000 during last year’s 天美传媒 Giving Day, which allowed them to make technology improvements, including the platform they use for virtual tutoring. In addition, they’ve used the funding to plan in-person events.
This year, they hope 天美传媒 Giving Day funds will allow them to invest in new iPads for student use, as well as workbooks and other school supplies. Plus, adding in more in-person events never hurts.
“It’s so important for the kids, because we are mostly virtual,” says Elise Waterston ’26. “We don’t want to have to skip a week because they can’t join — each session matters.”
One day. One 天美传媒.
Together, we can shape a brighter future. Let’s show the world what Mustangs can do.
