  • Full-time Executive Director

    Justice for Our Neighbors of North Central Texas (JFON), a non-profit organization, is part of the Immigration Law and Justice Network (ILJN) of legal clinics consisting of 19 locally funded and managed sites throughout the United States, operating approximately 36 immigration legal clinics, which are staffed by immigration attorneys and volunteers. JFON holds immigration legal clinics at three United Methodist church locations in the DFW area and has a program specializing in the representation of unaccompanied children. We provide low-income individuals and families with no cost or very low-cost high quality immigration legal services, advocacy, and education. Education is provided to receiving communities to better equip them to partner with immigrants in response to changes in immigration policy and practice.


    Position Summary

    JFON seeks highly qualified candidates for a full-time Executive Director position, located in Grapevine, TX. This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits. The Executive Director will work in collaboration with the Board of Directors and staff to perform the daily administrative operations of the organization, assist with the implementation of the strategic plan and goals, create and implement a fundraising plan, strategically plan and implement federal grants, and build relationships with churches, foundations, government entities, community organizations, and the ILJN office.

    Responsibilities

    Leadership and Management 25%
    • Oversee the non-legal operations of the organization and manage the administrative day-to-day affairs of the organization
    • In partnership with the Legal Director and Board of Directors, strategize and offer leadership for strengthening and expanding the ministry of JFON
    • In partnership with the Board of Directors and, as necessary, in consultation with ILJN, recruit, hire, develop, retain, inspire, and motivate a diverse and high performing staff team – including key volunteer positions
    • Provide support and leadership to staff
    • In partnership with the Legal Director and the Board of Directors, provide leadership in developing and implementing an effective, high-quality strategy for transformative service that meets the needs of JFON’s diverse constituents and aligns with the ILJN network-wide service model and ILJN
    • Regularly assess the effectiveness of the organization’s programs and identify new opportunities to increase the capacity of the organization in servicing clients
    • Participate in the ILJN Executive Director team calls, coaching process, annual roundtable, and occasional travel.


    Fundraising 30%
    • Work with the Board of Directors on strategies for donor acquisition and retention
    • Build relationships with individual and organizational prospects
    • Identify, cultivate, and solicit both individual and organizational major gift prospects
    • Research and identify foundation and government funding opportunities
    • Prepare and submit funding proposals to foundation and government entities
    • Create and produce annual fund solicitations
    • Create and distribute newsletters and annual reports.
    • Oversee donor acknowledgements
    • Engage Board Members and volunteers in fundraising efforts. Provide training opportunities as needed


    Community Representation and Advocacy 15%
    • In collaboration with the Board Chair, act as the primary spokesperson of the organization in the community
    • In collaboration with the Board Chair and all Board Members, establish relationships and build partnerships with faith communities, community service organizations, government entities and immigrant communities
    • Ensure that effective internal financial management systems and controls for the protection of organization assets are established and maintained

    Strategic Planning and Implementation of Subcontract for Federal Grant 30%
    In partnership with the Program Director and the Legal Director, oversee the strategic planning and implementation of a subcontract for a federal grant representing unaccompanied children on behalf of the organization
    • In partnership with the Program Director and the Legal Director, assess and identify new opportunities within the parameters of the grant to increase effectiveness and capacity in serving unaccompanied children
    • Provide oversight on operational procedures and communication to ensure fluidity in operations between the grant team and the organization at-large
    • Assist Program Director and Legal Director in planning and implementation of sub-programs (e.g., pro bono legal program, etc.) related to the grant
    • Participate in team calls and meetings regarding implementation of the grant

    Qualifications
    • Team player with the ability to work with a small staff
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience leading daily operations of securing vendor contracts and management, securing necessary equipment, supplies, and office space as needed
    • Proven track record identifying and soliciting organizational and government grant prospects.
    • Proven track record identifying, cultivating and soliciting individual prospects and donors


    • Experience implementing and managing government and organizational grants
    • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and financial software
    • Knowledge of and passion for immigration issues and serving immigrant communities
    • Knowledge of immigration processes is not required, but would be an asset
    • Willingness and flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed
    • Proven experience working with a non-profit board

    The Executive Director should have a strong commitment to public interest law and to the enfranchisement and empowerment of immigrant communities. JFON is not just a legal services program, but a faith-based ministry of service involving many diverse individuals, cultures, and faiths who come together through The United Methodist Church* to welcome immigrants to our community. As such, the Executive Director must have an ability to work sensitively with numerous volunteers and clients having diverse personalities, lifestyles, cultures, political orientations, and faiths.
