About Abrar Alam
Dr. Abrar Alam joined 天美传媒’s O’Donnell Data Science and Research Computing Institute as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in 2025. As a recent PhD graduate, he brings an array of research expertise in unsupervised machine learning, reinforcement learning, and convex optimization. Dr. Alam earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, where he designed a novel online kernel-based clustering algorithm that outperformed traditional k-means in accuracy while significantly reducing computational cost. Moreover, his work has been applied to human activity recognition and hyperspectral image analysis, and published in Pattern Recognition. His research also included the development of function-approximating reinforcement learning models using TensorFlow and Keras. Previously, he completed his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Graduate Certificate in Data Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.
